The Digital Block Factory in Ferrol
The DBF is a flagship program that covers everything from steel preparation and processing to the assembly of sub-blocks, blocks, and P1 and P2 preassemblies for NFBI ships. It includes an automated line for panel and open-unit manufacturing, featuring robotics with hybrid laser welding, AGVs for internal movement, and robotic cranes to transfer intermediate products. Designed with simulation tools, it lays the foundation for a digital twin managing data from IT and OT networks and a SCADA system. It also includes a robotic cell for preassembled bulkheads and robots for weld inspection, dimensional control, and painting, eliminating systematic blasting and enabling robotic surface treatment and control solutions in clean environments.
The Flat Open Units Workshop in San Fernando
TUAP is a fully automated processing workshop with a manufacturing line for panels and open units. This line is similar to the one installed in the DBF and includes hybrid laser welding. Like the DBF, this workshop was designed using simulation tools, which will also form the basis for configuring and deploying the plant and process digital twin. This twin will operate using process data collected from the IT and OT networks, as well as plant data exploited via a SCADA system.
The Flat Panels Line in Puerto Real
The FPL is a fully automated workshop integrating a manufacturing line for panels and open units, similar to the one at the DBF, with hybrid laser welding. Designed with simulation tools, it establishes the basis for a digital twin that manages data from IT and OT networks and a SCADA system. It is also prepared to process steel for substations.
The Engine Factory in Cartagena
Digital management and control tools have been implemented in the Engine Factory, covering digital planning and administration, automation, and RPA. Analytics and AI have been deployed for load balancing, root cause analysis, and smart material management.

F110, the 21st Century Frigate
Navantia began designing the F-100 frigate in 1996. More than 20 years later, and with 13 ships of this family built in different versions for several countries (Spain, Norway, and Australia), the innovative new F110 aims to maintain Navantia's global leadership as a frigate designer and builder, also providing lifecycle support. The F-110 is a multipurpose platform representing a technological leap toward the smart ship. It incorporates Industry 4.0 technologies that improve construction, operation, and lifecycle management.
