COEX Smart Ships

COEX Smart Ships is Navantia's Center of Excellence specializing in the conceptual design of intelligent, sustainable, and highly digitalized vessels. Based in Madrid and composed of more than 60 engineers from multiple disciplines, the center leads the development of modular and energy-efficient naval solutions with a user-centered approach and a strong focus on automation, connectivity, and cybersecurity. Its goal is to transform naval engineering through the use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, and eco-design principles, ensuring the competitiveness of Navantia’s products in an ever-evolving global market.

With a collaborative network that includes key players in the technological, energy, and industrial sectors —such as REPSOL, MARIN, NAVAL GROUP, and UPM—, COEX Smart Ships participates in strategic European projects like the design of the future EPC corvette or the dTHOR structural monitoring system. It also drives the green transition through initiatives like SISPROVE and ECOGES, focused on reducing environmental impact and incorporating new energy sources. This center positions Navantia at the forefront of future naval design, combining technological innovation, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence.
